"Hunger" Giclée Print
I painted “Hunger” during the summer of 2021 at my friend’s home in Los Angeles after I’d left mine and was in a temporary limbo. Feeling low at the time, I wanted to paint someone who is unlovable because of something unchangeable. I wanted to paint her as stiff, off-centered, watched, and forever stuck in herself. The girl, her eyes, the creatures, and the colors of the world ever-softened and changed far from the intention of the original sketch. This process pushed built up memories to the surface, slowed me down, and helped me find a new desire to go forward, ultimately leading me to move to Tokyo again that fall. This painting is dear to me and urges me to move forward. I now see her as strong.
Wide-eyed in a daze, she suffers from herself alone, while the world watches on in silence.
The proceeds from this print will be put towards the development of my next project. I’m excited to share what is next.
Thank you always,
Lauren
